Maxwell Beach

Once you reach Maxwell beach you are surrounded by golden sand, gentle lapping waves and a taste of paradise.

There are benches dotted along the beach to sit down and enjoy the view. There are a few hotels that back on to this beach but it is far from overcrowded. It is an ideal venue to take the family for a fun day out.

Things to Do
There are a few vendors selling local craft and jewellery. The beach has woodland behind it where you can send the kids off to count the thousands of red crabs marching through!

The sea here is very calm and perfect for swimming; there is a lifeguard on duty. You can rent beach chairs and umbrellas from Willis for $10BDS a day each. There is volleyball net if you want to round up a few people for a game.

There are hotels where you can buy lunch, always check in with reception as at busy times they only cater for residents, however you can always buy an excellent hot lunch from the food cart which parks on the road between 12 -1.30pm most week days. Lunch usually costs from $10-$16BDS.

Driving Directions
From Bridgetown head along the south coast road towards Maxwell, once through Maxwell you will see The Croton Inn on your right, you need to turn right at this corner, go to the bottom of the road where you will see Gideon's Lobster restaurant, here there is a car park and public access to the beach.

The car park is in a wooded area where there is a portable toilet and picnic tables. It is a lovely spot for a picnic, and very cool because of the shade, there is also a fresh water tap here for rinsing off.

View the location of the beach on our Barbados Interactive Map.
