BayView Hospital

BayView Hospital is a privately owned and operated facility located in the parish of St. Michael. This Barbados hospital was established in 1989 out of a desire to provide Barbadians, their Caribbean neighbours and visitors with private medical care. Just on the outskirts of Barbados' capital of Bridgetown, BayView Hospital is situated in close proximity to many of the island's leading hotels. It is just two miles from the Bridgetown port and an easy twenty minute drive from the Grantley Adams International Airport.
BayView's small size allows for a unique blend of personalised patient care and high quality accommodation in a homely atmosphere. This is reflected in their Mission which is: "To give optimum care to all our patients in our Home Away From Home setting."
Patients can choose between private or shared accommodation rooms. The private rooms are equipped with vanity, en suite bathroom, telephone, and cable television. The shared accommodation rooms are spacious and designed with four bed units and a shared bathroom. All rooms are fitted with ceiling fans and air-conditioning units. The decor of all rooms has been chosen to provide that "Home Away From Home" atmosphere which is the hallmark of patient care at BayView.
There is a High Dependency Unit at BayView for those patients who need special, one-on-one attention. Highly trained nurses will not only look after the patient's needs, but also provide a caring shoulder and sympathetic ear for family members. There are also three operating theatres and a purpose built Day Unit which accommodates six patients. In this Unit, patients for day surgery are managed from admission to discharge. This is a particularly busy and efficient unit since BayView offers day surgery in a number of specialties.
Their small size aside, BayView offers medical care in a number of fields, including: ENT Surgery, Reconstructive Surgery, Urologic Surgery, Neurology and Orthopaedic Surgery. Furthermore, over its lifetime, 5000 healthy babies have been delivered at BayView! Le Maze classes are offered by a highly trained midwife.
BayView also has an in-house Pharmacy as well as free parking for both patients and visitors.

This is not at the standard of clinincs in the developed world, and I wouldn't have expected it it be either.
I had a surgery done at BayView Hospital and I was very dissapointed to see the lack of hygiene in certain areas of the hospital. Also the beds and chairs in the patient pre-surgery room had rust all over them. I felt really sad to have to be in a situation in which to have to use these facilities. When I was in the "wake-up" room after the surgery, the nurses were very unpleseant, and once again the sad feeling came over me.
The reception staff were very friendly though.
