Christ Church is located on the south coast of Barbados and is where you will find the majority of restaurants, bars, hotels and tourist attractions.
When you arrive in Barbados, it will be either by air or sea, if it is by air then you will land at Grantley Adams International Airport, which is in the parish of Christ Church. Located next door to the airport is the Barbados Concorde Experience, here in Barbados we are lucky enough to have one of the Concorde aircrafts since its retirement. When you make your way down from the airport you may pass through the fishing village of Oistins, which is renowned for its Friday night fish fry; a social gathering of both tourists and locals who get together to enjoy great cooked fish and a few glasses of rum. There are some great beaches in Christ Church, if you are looking for water sports action then you can head to Long Beach, which is great for kite surfing, or Silver Rock and Silver Sands, which are both good for wind surfing. If you just want to surf on the south, then head to Freights Bay by the South Point Lighthouse.
If you just fancy swimming then you can go to one of many beaches, all of which have white sand and are good for sea bathing. Some of the popular ones are Miami Beach, Accra, Sandy Beach or Dover Beach. Or even go up to the Aquatic Centre at the Garfield Sobers Gymnasium, where there is an Olympic size pool for the more dedicated swimmer.
If golf is your chosen sport then you can enjoy playing at one of two locations in Christ Church. There is a good course at Rockley Golf and Country Club and this parish is also home to the Barbados Golf Club.
There are also plenty of tourist attractions in this parish such as the Graeme Hall Nature Sanctuary, which is nice place to wander around and get away from the hustle and bustle of the busy south coast streets. For a unique experience you might like to go to the Globe Drive In, where you can either watch the latest films from the comfort of your car or take a picnic and lay out under the stars while you watch the film.
If you would like to visit one of the Anglican churches in this parish then you could go to Christ Church Parish Church, which is famous for the moving coffins inside the Chase family vault. There were 5 members of this family that died within the same decade. When the first coffin was laid in the vault, it is reported that a couple of years later when a second family member died, they opened to the vault and found the first coffin had moved, the second coffin was laid to rest and the vault sealed.
Some years later, when another family member died, they opened the vault again and found that both coffins had moved again. When this happened for a fourth time all the coffins were relocated. Other churches in the parish are St. Patrick's Church and St. David's Church.
