The Barbados Defence Force is the island's primary protector from internal and external threats. The main base is at St. Ann's Fort at the Garrison in St. Michael. It is interesting to note that Barbados has never been invaded by another country. Furthermore, at the main headquarters at St. Ann's Fort, there is a state of the art decompression chamber for the treatment of diving accidents and other illnesses.
