Barbados Newspapers

There are two major Newspapers in Barbados, The Barbados Nation and The Barbados Advocate. Both of these companies publish a daily newspaper with local and international news as well as sections assigned to Real Estate, Finance and the Stock Market, Obituaries, Letters to the Editor, Classifieds, Horoscopes, Comics, Sports, Business and Entertainment. Both of these newspapers offer delivery service every day of the week and both are available online, so even when you are away from our beautiful island, you can still keep up to date with our latest news.

The Advocate was Barbados' first newspaper established in October 1895; therefore last year (2005) marked the 120th anniversary of The Advocate publication.

The Barbados Advocate offers special inserts on various days of the week. For example, in Monday's newspaper you will find Business Monday, which as its name implies is full of Business news, tips and general information. On Friday, The Advocate publishes a youth magazine called Infinity, which has news on fashion and entertainment as well as dealing with issues crucial to our country's youth. There are two inserts to be found with Sunday's Advocate, Action Sunday which basically includes news other than what would be in the general newspaper, and Homemakers which is filled with recipe ideas, child rearing tips, cleaning suggestions and other useful information.

Nation Publishing Co. Limited is a rather newer company compared to The Advocate having been established in November of 1973. The Barbados Nation has a total of five newspapers throughout the week. The Daily Nation is published on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. On Wednesdays, the publication is the Midweek Nation, Fridays brings the Weekend Nation, Saturday has the Saturday Sun and likewise, Sunday is the Sunday Sun. Like The Advocate, The Nation also has supplements within their newspaper. On Wednesday, you can find an insert called Midweek Sports which is the most in-depth weekly sports publication available, and in Friday's newspaper, you can find Groove Magazine which is all about entertainment, and caters towards people in their mid-teens to mid-twenties. In Sunday's newspaper, there is the Easy Magazine, which is all about fashion geared mostly towards women between the ages of twenty-five and forty. Sunday also has a separate Comics section, which, apart from comics, has games and fun facts for children. Nation Publishing Co. Limited also put out another publication separate from the newspaper itself called The Business Authority. This is a weekly publication that comes out every Monday with detailed business news for professionals.

Whether you are in Barbados for business or pleasure, sports or leisure; check out our local newspapers, The Barbados Advocate and The Daily Nation, to keep you up to date on what's going on in Barbados.
