|
|
Barbados' 2008 Grammy-award winning pop princess, Rihanna, has topped the list of the 51 most beautiful people as rated by Ocean Style magazine.
The 20-year-old Rihanna, (real name Robyn Rihanna Fenty), graces the cover of the latest edition of the Caribbean high fashion and luxury lifestyle magazine.
The publication notes that since bursting on to the entertainment scene at the age of 17, "Rihanna has quickly become a staple in the world of fashion, regularly being featured in magazines and the popular "it" TV shows.
"Her mainstream appeal works to her benefit, with a bevy of world-class brands lining up to present various endorsement deals.".
The Barbadian super star has won endorsement contracts with:
» LG
» Totes Isotoner
» Secret
» Barbados Tourism Authority
» Nike
» Nokia
» JC Penny
» Samsung
» Fuze (a juice and tea company) and...
» Cover Girl
"When it comes to fashion, Rihanna is a style icon for young women everywhere," declared Ocean Style.
"Everything from her cutting edge hairstyles to her ever-expanding number of tattoos is fodder for tabloids, weeklies, and fan websites the world over."
"We salute our Caribbean comrade whose success continues to broadcast Barbados at every turn," says Ocean Style.
Barbados this year named Rihanna, an Ambassador for Youth and Culture, in recognition of the 2008 Grammy achievement and her contribution to the country.
Prime Minister David Thompson conferred the title on the young R & B singer at a free, open-air music concert in her honour in the Barbados capital, Bridgetown on February 21st, 2008.
Also among the 51 most beautiful people named by Ocean Style are actress Nia Long, retired Trinidadian cricket star Brian Lara, performers Sean Paul, Wyclef Jean and Machel Montano and former beauty queens Penny Commissiong, Wendy Fitzwilliam and Giselle Laronde-West.
The Ocean Style selectees were chosen through a combination of physical attractiveness and beauty, personal character and substantive achievement, with the final cut "reflecting the ethnic diversity, culture, values and ambition inherent in the phrase Caribbean Roots."
