Barbados International song queen Rihanna will compete for 3 Grammies, when the 51st annual award ceremony comes off at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California on February 8th, 2009.
The nominations are in the Best Dance Recording category for “Disturbia”, in the Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals category, for “If I Never See Your Face Again” with Maroon 5, and in the Best Long Form Music Video category for “Good Girl Gone Bad: Live”.
Both “Disturbia” and “If I Never See Your Face Again” are from Rihanna’s popular album “Good Girl Gone Bad: Reloaded”.
Also nominated in the Best Dance Recording category are Madonna, Sam Sparro, Lady Gaga & Colby O'Donis, Hot Chip and Daft Punk.
In the Best Pop Collaboration category, Rihanna is up against: Alicia Keys and John Mayer; Madonna, Justin Timberlake and Timbaland; Robert Plant and Alison Krauss and Jordin Sparks with Chris Brown.
Nominated with Rihanna in the Best Long Form Music Video category are: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, The Who, John Mayer and Robert Gordon & Morgan Neville.
The Grammy Awards show, which last year was seen by over seven million TV viewers, will be telecast live around the world in high definition with 5.1 surround sound.
Meanwhile the February 2009 edition of the American mass circulation magazine “Ebony” has named the 2008 Grammy-award winning Rihanna, along with her constant travelling companion, fellow performer Chris Brown, as one of today’s 10 hottest couples.
In the nine-page spread Ebony says “these two young stars may go down in music history as the lovebirds that never confirmed a thing”, a reference to the fact that neither Rihanna, 20, nor Brown 19, ever talk in public about their relationship.
“The pair has been snapped (by the paparazzi) smooching in swimming pools, eating in restaurants, cooing in clubs and snuggling in general, yet their publicists remain mum on what looks to be a fabulously touchy-feely relationship,” Ebony added.
Other pairs named include actors Will Smith and his wife, Jada, singer Mariah Carey and her young husband, Nick Cannon, Beyonce and her new hubby, music mogul Jay-Z and Janet Jackson and her beau of the last seven years, Jermaine Dupri.
