St John Accommodation

The parish of St. John is located on the east coast of Barbados and is a good accommodation choice if you are interested in sightseeing along this coast.

Accommodation in St. John is very limited but there are a few decent places to stay in this area.

There was only one hotel in this parish, which was Villa Nova, a grand old plantation house, which was once the home to former UK Prime Minister Sir Anthony Eden.

In later years this was transformed in to a luxury hotel but sadly ran in to financial difficulty and is closed to the public at the time of writing (June 2008).

Another famous building in this parish is Codrington College, famed for being a theological college of excellence for training Anglican ministers. It is now open as a general school for children as well.

The building itself is beautiful and the grounds are a delight to walk around, so if you are staying in this area make sure you go and have a look around,

Therefore your only accommodation choice in this parish is to rent a self-catering apartment or a house, details of these properties can be found through any of the Barbados realtors.

There are no fine dining restaurants in the parish of St. John but there are two really good local options where you will get delicious food at a delicious price.

You can try eating at the local fish fry at Consett Bay, where they is a fish market selling fresh fish daily.

On Friday evenings, there are stalls selling cooked fish and drinks with music in the area; there is generally a good party with locals and visitors mingling and having a good time.

Another option for great food is a rum shop in the area called Lemon Arbour, which is famous for its pork. Here you will get a huge plate of succulent pork for around $7.50US.

The view here is wonderful as it overlooks the parish of St. George and it's sweeping sugar cane fields. The most popular day is Saturday lunch time; so get there early for a good seat and some great food.

If you want to picnic in this area then head to Bath, where there is coral reef protecting the bay from the crashing Atlantic Ocean, so you can also snorkel here. There is a well-shaded park with benches and facilities for you to enjoy.
