There are many accommodation choices in St. Philip from luxury hotels, guest houses, and plenty of self-catering apartments and houses to rent.
The parish of St. Philip is located on the east coast of Barbados, just above the Grantley Adams International Airport.
By choosing to stay in this parish you are surrounded by stunning beaches and some great tourist attractions. Here you can enjoy the tranquillity of this parish but still be close enough to the action of the south coast for the occasional night out.
One of the best hotels in this parish is The Crane Resort, which is one of the oldest hotels on the island which has undergone extensive renovation and expansion.
You can either stay here as a hotel guest or you can purchase a unit to use year after year. The resort over looks the award winning Crane beach and has a couple f excellent fine dining restaurants.
The Crane Beach was voted as one of the top 10 beaches in the world, and in this parish you will find a few other excellent bays such as Foul Bay, Sam Lord's, Bottom Bay and Harrismith to name but a few. Swimming at some of these beaches can be dangerous as this is the Atlantic Ocean, however precaution should always be taken when swimming in the ocean.
This side of the island enjoys cooling winds and is quieter than the neighboring parish of Christ Church. However there is still plenty to do in this parish to keep you amused.
There are a couple of old plantation houses, one of which, Sunbury Plantation House is open to the public and has a wonderful collection of antique furniture and gives you an insight in to a bygone era of Barbadian living.
Also in this parish you will find Oughterson House, which is where Bussa was the head ranger. Bussa led the great slave revolt in Barbados and is now a national Hero with a roundabout and statue dedicated to his memory.
If you do visit Sunbury, then carry on along the same road to Daphne's Sea Shell Studio where you can find unique gifts to take home.
Another hotel that was located in this parish was Sam Lord's Castle, which was owned by the notorious Sam Lord. The main castle offered accommodation with four poster beds and antique furniture, with a modern hotel complex that offered over 200 rooms.
Sadly this ran in to financial problems and is now closed at the time of writing (June 2008). Sam Lord's beach and the beaches here are still wonderful and although not so easy to access now that the hotel is closed, they are still worth venturing down to visit and taking a picnic.
Other things to do in this parish include motor racing at Bushy Park and a really good day out for the entire family can be found at Kendal Sporting Range.
There are also a number of guesthouses in St. Philip, which gives you the security of knowing that you have a clean comfortable room and breakfast included, but it means you are not tied to hotel facilities and you can venture out for the day to explore the island.
If you want to be totally self-sufficient then there are a number of apartments and houses to rent within this parish and there is a very good shopping center at Six Roads with a fully stocked supermarket.
