The crop over festival season is like Christmas in Barbados, or any other holiday on the island - it is an excellent opportunity to indulge in authentic, rich and delicious Bajan cooking. As part of the Barbadian culture and heritage, Bajan's are serious about their food. Whether it's cou-cou and flying fish (our national dish), pudding and souse, flying fish cutters or fishcakes, it's not a matter to be taken lightly!

Crop over is the perfect time to sample our island cuisine in a vibrant cultural setting. Over this coming weekend, the place to be is the Spring Garden highway. Every year, thousands of people, locals and visitors alike, flock to this venue to enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of this busy street fair, known as the Bridgetown Market. 

Food is available from a variety of vendors at different points along the road. You can sit and eat at Tims on de Highway which is open for breakfast (on certain days) lunch and dinner. Here you will find a wide variety of quality food including cou-cou, salt fish (no doubt a selection of other fish will also be available), peas and rice, macaroni pie, black pudding and souse, barbecue chicken and pork, fried plantain, shepherd's pie and much, much more. If you are unsure about what to order, just ask any of the locals and they would be happy to make a recommendation for you.
