News from the World Golf Championships Barbados World Cup

Bernhard Langer and Marcel Siem, representing Germany, were the first of the 24 teams to tee off at 9:10 a.m. Barbados time, to start the 2006 World Golf Championships Barbados World Cup.

Players found the conditions quite difficult, with mixed fortunes in the weather, and windy conditions. At times it would rain, and on some of those occasions the showers were heavy, while on other occasions the sun would be shining in its glory. However, the winds were strong, and never eased up during the days play.

At the end of the days play which was in the Four-ball, (best ball) format, three teams were tied for the lead on seven under par, South Africa, represented by, Rory Sabbatini and Sterne, Sweden, represented by, Henrik Stenson and Carl Pettersson, and Argentina represented by Angel Cabrera and Andres Romero.

Wales, the defending champions, and Germany, are one stroke back, while the United States of America, England and South Korea are two strokes off the lead.

They are four teams three strokes off the lead, including the favoured pairs of Colin Molin Montgomerie and Marc Warren of Scotland, and Padraig Harrington and Paul McGinley of Ireland.

Three teams are four off the lead, while another four teams are five off the lead, including the Barbados team of Roger Beale jr. and James Johnson.

Two teams are one under par, which is six off the lead, while one team is even, one team one over, and one team two over par, nine off the lead.

Play continues tomorrow at the Country Club Course, Sandy Lane Resort, St. James, when the format changes to Foursomes (alternate strokes).

Starting times are 10:00 a.m.to 11.50 a.m.
