First Caribbean International Bank has a very strong presence in Barbados and the Bahamas, whilst the Royal Bank of Trinidad and Tobago is very strong in the Trinidad and Jamaica, therefore a merger of these two banks would make them the most stable across the Caribbean region with a major stronghold in 4 countries.

If such a merger were to happen it would need the approval of the regulators in Barbados, Jamaica, Trinidad, Antigua and the Bahamas, which would be a lengthy process and could not happen overnight, therefore experts in the industry are not expecting anything to happen for at least another 6 months.
