Barbados Chamber of Commerce and Industry Breakfast Seminar

'Who Controls the Economy of Barbados'

These and other issues will be discussed by a panel of businessmen and academics at a Breakfast Seminar organised by the Barbados Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Wednesday, 31 January 2007 at the Sherbourne Conference Centre, Two Mile Hill, St. Michael.

---------------------------------------------
Dear Business Colleague WHO CONTROLS THE ECONOMY OF BARBADOS Recent comments in the press and over the airwaves suggest a difference of opinion on who actually controls the Economy of Barbados. It is widely accepted that the private sector generates the wealth in any society while Government derives revenue mainly through taxes. Who makes up the private sector? A simple answer could be anyone or entity who provides a service or who makes and/or sells a product in order to make a profit. Another could be anyone or business that is not owned and controlled by the State. Whatever the definition used, wealth is derived from economic activity within a country. An analysis of the factors that contribute to economic activity and thus throw light on the question who controls the economy, will no doubt raise a number of questions. These include what is the role of the business community and how it is structured? Who controls the distribution of assets? How does direct foreign investment impact on the economy? Who influences Government's Policy? You are invited to join us for a provocative and stimulating discussion on "Who Controls the Economy of Barbados' We attach details of cost and urge you to register early and participate and share your views on this subject.
