Non-national Employment Requirements
Non-nationals who would like to gain employment in Barbados, for the short or long term, are required to have a Work Permit issued by the Barbados Immigration Department prior to commencing work.
Work Permits are only granted to non-nationals in the event that the company they are seeking employment with can effectively prove that there is no-one suitable for the position in Barbados. The Work Permit process can take approximately six weeks to three months from the date of submission of the application. Should a Work Permit be granted, it is important to remember that it only pertains to the company associated with the application and it is not transferable. Application for a new Work Permit is required if one wishes to change employer.
A Visitor's Visa of twenty-eight days can be issued for those who are staying in Barbados for non-business purposes. For instance, if a family is on island to gather information about housing or education, a visitor visa can be issued.
