STORY:
Three sisters whose lifestyles and personalities are as diverse as the islands of the Caribbean. Challenged with changing circumstances they reunite to decide upon the fate of their beachfront home for which resort developers have made them an offer they can't refuse... or can they?
Stuck in the past, mother hen Mya's (Varia) broodiness starts to spark some radical changes.
To progressive, pragmatic Sam (Marina) money is the easy answer and the only thing that matters... or is it?
And though Emma's (Rosemary) star is rising internationally, she now realizes that maybe 'home' is a treasure not to be let go of so easily.
Scott (Sean) is the guy tossed into the mix, igniting some other possibilities.
Secrets and surprises are revealed and it all gets a little crazy!
THEME:
A 'take' on the soap opera genre... It is a story with subtle layers, addressing themes of keeping tradition and pursuing progress.
Family, fortune and fame..... and how every choice has a price!
A tongue-in-cheek piece of social commentary... with characters that we can easily relate to and issues that are current.... told with sublime humour.
SO FAR:
"Holding On" premiered in May 2007, at the Bridgetown Film Festival to a positive response from the audience, especially women - ok, so its something of a 'chick flick' - and received a 'special mention' in the best short film category.
Its second screening at the 'Cinematech' at Errol Barrow Centre for Creative Imagination (EBCCI) was also warmly received.
Last month "Holding On' was selected by the Film Group to be shown at the Barbados Tourism Authority (BTA) hosted event.......at The Harbour Front in Toronto, where Mood Patel, says the small audience totally enjoyed it.
"Holding On' continues to make ripples in small circles... if you haven't seen it yet our next showing is this Saturday, 28th July at the screening room at George Washington House, The Garrison Savannah.
Admission is BDS $20 which will include a glass of wine and a performance of the original song by Grenadian musician Cosmos "Cozzie" Hagley.
