Virgin Atlantic Music Festival
|
Some of the most talented up and coming UK musicians have flown in to Barbados to perform over 4 days at various venues all over Barbados from November 14th - 17th, 2007.
The event, which has been sponsored by Virgin Atlantic will give Barbadians a musical treat as all the bands play different genres of music appealing to young and old. These performances will see local Barbadian performers as well as regional artists making the whole event quite transatlantic.
The opening event will be happening at Surfers Bay Beach Bar, Silver Sands from 7pm on Wednesday 14th of November. This will be a jam session with a mix and match of the performers. The event will then move to Pablo Dontes on the south coast main road where Anna Hall, G and Willow will all perform from 9pm.
Anna Hall is a guitarist/singer/songwriter, who will be playing acoustic guitar and vocals. Willow is Caroline O'Neill, who hails from Ireland and is a singer/songwriter/guitarist with the voice of an angel. G is Glen Harwood a talented multi-instrumentalist who brings colour and flavour to his band Diverted Traffic's songs.
On Thursday 15 November at 9pm The Martin Harley Band will perform at Mojo's on the south coast main road. Martin Harley is a singer songwriter whose influences come from folk and blues. Voted by Digital blues as one of the best solo performers of 2006 and voted best solo acoustic act by London Acoustic in 2005 this slide guitarist is not to be missed.
The event will then move to McBrides in St. Lawrence Gap where Muscle Shoal will play from 11.30pm. Muscle Shoal are a collective group of talented musicians who have produced many albums and worked with some of the top names in the business including Fleetwood Mac.
On Friday the 16th of November Diverted Traffic and Willow will perform at The Elbow Room and The Mews on the west coast. Diverted Traffic are a 4 man band with original songs and a unique sound. Glen Harwood on lead vocals, James Woulfe on bass guitar, Roger Pearson on keyboards and bass, Wayne Gibson on drums.
On Saturday the 17th of November all bands will play at the big jam held at Surfer's Bay Beach bar from 5pm onwards.
Tickets for this event are $35 and are available from Lazy Days, both south and west coast locations or on the door.
This musical extravaganza will culminate with performances from Ricky Barr & Nick Timothy who are both from Ireland and have been playing together for the last 3 years. They write, sing, play guitar, the harmonica and the mandolin. Their music is traditional Irish mingled with blues and folk and their own brand of acoustic funk.

Came over frrom the uk for the music festival and had a great time. All the artists just got better and better as the week went on! The final event of the festival, the Sunday evening concert at Surfer's Bay, was a wonderful experience. The waves crashing behind the stage and watching the sunsetwhilst listening to live music. Hairs on the back of the neck were jostling for position.....!
