The Barbados Marine Trust (BMT) is a non-profit environmental NGO and charity (Charity #549) with the aim of protecting and preserving the Barbados marine environment, and educating the public about one of Barbados' most vital resources - the sea.
In 2008, which is the International Year of the Reef, BMT will be hosting a series of MONTHLY LIMES which will be held during the first week of each month. The Limes will feature short, informative presentations on issues related to the marine environment by experts in the fields as well as BMT Personnel. Topics that BMT are aiming to cover include Coral Reefs, Coastal Hazards, Beach Erosion, Marine Pollution, Coastal Developments amongst others.
The upcoming Lime will be held on Thursday, June 05th - which is also World Environment Day - and will feature a presentation entitled 'Beach Erosion and Coastal Development' which will be delivered by Dr. Leo Brewster - Director of the Coastal Zone Management Unit (c/o the Local Ministry of Environment).
This June Lime will be held at Lord Willoughby's Tavern (Bagatelle House) in Bagatelle, St. Thomas. Refreshments will be on sale at the Tavern.
The Limes, in addition to increasing public awareness about our marine resources, will also serve to increase the membership base of the Barbados Marine Trust.
Special Thanks to our Sponsors - Mount Gay Distilleries Ltd., and Lord Willoughby's Tavern!!
