The Salvation Army will be hosting a fund-raising Dramatic Production entitled, Glory.
Venue: Frank Collymore Hall
Time: 7:00 pm
Box Offices: The Salvation Army Headquarters and All Salvation Army Churches
The musical is based on the now classis stories of the Army’s early days in Folkestone as told by Colonel Edward Joy in his book The Old Corps (Salvationist Publishing and Supplies). These stories have warmed the hearts of many generations and it is hoped that throught he medium of the musical the inspiration and challenge of their message will reach an even wider audience.
The common thread linking all the stories is the transforming grace of God at work in the lives of His children. We watch as the glory of God descends on ordinary, very ordinary men and women, and we see them being made in His image and becoming extraordinary people. Instant saints they do not become. In fact the almost endearing quirks of some of them is what gives these stories their special charm. But one is left in no doubt that it is God Himself who is at work and that we are treading on holy ground.
The stories which, in the original book, cover a span of years have, in the musical, been compressed into the twelve months that Captain and Mrs. Campbell spend in Folklore. When they arrive (at the beginning of the musical) there is no Salvation Army in Folkestone. When they depart (at the end of the musical) they leave behind them a colourful company of men and women on fire for God. It is the stories of God’s dealings with these people, as bonny a handful as any corps as ever seen, which for the heart of the musical.
