Health & Safety Committee Certification Training Part I


The Safety and Health at Work Act, passed in May 2005, requires workplaces to have health and safety committees and employee health and safety delegates. This course explains the legal requirements, the roles and responsibilities of committees and delegates, and provides instruction to effectively carry out their important functions.

Health & Safety Committee Certification Training Part II - Office / Industrial


This course combines the two tenets of the HSC part 2 Office and Industrial and was specifically designed to accommodate companies with both office and industrial groups to be trained. Participants will gain an understanding of the hazards commonly encountered in the office and those found in production, maintenance, or industrial workplaces. This course is the final certification in the health and safety committee member certification.

Intended Audience: Participants in this course will gain an understanding of the hazards commonly encountered in the office and those found in production, maintenance, or industrial workplaces. Persons who have completed the HSC Part 1 Certification.

Lock Out / Tag Out Training & Basic Machine and Process Safeguarding


Lockout / Tagout (LOTO) standard involves the adoption and implementation of practices and procedures to shut down equipment, isolate it from its energy source(s), and prevent the release of potentially hazardous energy while maintenance and servicing activities are being performed.

Intended Audience: Managers and Supervisors, Maintenance Personnel, Industrial Cleaners, Chemical Production Workers, Store Keepers, Safety Delegates, Current and Future Members of Safety Committees, Government OHS Inspectors and Operatives/Floor Workers and Interested Persons.

Indoor Air Quality and Mould Awareness Training


This course has been designed to a) familiarize participants with health effects caused by various agents typically known to cause indoor air quality concerns including moulds, and b) provide an understanding of the various methods available for the assessment of indoor air quality and mould issues, and strategies to control them.

Intended Audience: Property Managers, HR Staff, Facility Operators, OHS Physicians/Nurses, Maintenance Managers, All Interested Persons.

Asbestos Hazard Awareness


Asbestos safety regulations have been in North America for over 20 years and are expected to come into effect in Barbados in the near future. Based on standards in place in Canada, USA and the UK, and expected requirements of the Barbados asbestos regulation.

Intended Audience: Health and safety professionals and anyone responsible for investigating accidents and preparing reports e.g. Safety Officers / Managers, Safety Committee Members, Government OHS Inspectors.

Accident & Incident Investigation


Accident Investigation presents a practical approach to investigating workplace accidents by emphasizing how to find the root cause(s), conduct an investigation, confidently present findings that are legally sound and make effective recommendations to prevent similar occurrences from ever happening again. Additionally, they will gain an appreciation of the importance of the process for causal analysis and record keeping.

Manual Handling



Manual Handling (also called Manual Material Handling or Manutention) involves the use of the human body in the lifting, lowering, pulling, pushing, filling, emptying, carrying or supporting of loads. The loads can be animate (persons or animals) or inanimate (objects). When performed incorrectly or excessively, these tasks may expose workers to physical risk factors, fatigue and even debilitating injuries. Thus this course will review a variety of techniques and tools to alleviate these potential problems.

Basic Construction Site Safety


This course provides participants with a comprehensive overview of the components required to produce a safe construction site. It looks at people and practices, equipment and the environment. Topics include ladder & scaffold safety; slips, trips and falls; industrial ergonomics, compressed gases, guarding floor & wall openings; machine safeguarding, and hand and power tool safety.

Office Ergonomics


Participants in this course will gain an understanding of the ergonomics hazards commonly encountered in office settings.

Industrial Ergonomics for Safety and Performance
Poor ergonomic design can lead to musculoskeletal injuries, low back pain and other ailments; as well as increased error rates, reduced quality and lower productivity. Traditionally ergonomic training has focused on office environments, neglecting the needs of engineering personnel responsible for equipment and process design and operation. This course has been specifically designed for engineering and technical specialists to look at critical areas.

Intended Audience: Safety Officers, Members of Health & Safety Committees, Process Designers, Ergonomists, Plant Managers/Supervisors.

OHS for Managers and Supervisors - The "Competent" Person Course


Under Ontario's Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations certain functions may only be performed by a "Competent Person". This course is a Barbados-specific version of the Ontario "Competent" person course. It aims to arm supervisory and management staff with the competency in respect of two critical criteria, namely (1) familiarity with the legislation that applies to the work and (2) knowledge of actual and potential dangers of the work.

Intended Audience: Anyone with supervisory responsibility; Anyone charged responsibility requiring knowledge in the two critical criteria

A risk assessment is a careful examination of what could cause harm to people in the workplace. Doing a risk assessment will help employers identify the significant risks in their workplace, and avoid wasted effort by effectively targeting these. A good risk assessment will help avoid accidents and ill health, which can not only ruin lives, but can also increase costs to business through lost output, damaged furnishings or equipment, compensation claims and higher insurance premiums.

Confined Space OSH Basics


This course is designed to give participants an understanding of the key hazards associated with work in confined spaces, and how to use and operate confined space safety equipment to monitor and control these hazards. Confined spaces include pits, tanks, silos, pipelines, etc. Attention is given to how to use entry plans, working in confined spaces, major confined space hazards, entry permits, rescue plans to facilitate safe extractions, and regulatory requirements.

Intended Audience: Maintenance Persons, Industrial Workers, Agriculture Workers, Plumbing and Sewage Personnel, Safety Officers.
