Roger, Rick and Marilyn's show on 104.5 CHUM FM is one of the most popular in Toronto and each year they run a competition for their listeners to win an all inclusive trip to Barbados for the week of Breakfast in Barbados.

104.5 CHUM FM have been broadcasting its morning show with Roger, Rick and Marilyn live from Barbados for one week every year, for the last 23 years, but have been staging this concert in Barbados for the last four years with international artists such as Bryan Adams, Nelly Furtado, and Michael Buble performing at the previous concerts at Harbour Lights in Barbados. 

For 2008 104.5 CHUM FM flew in Hedley and Serena Ryder to perform for 30 lucky winners and their families who accompanied Roger, Rick and Marilyn.

The main event of their weeklong stay in Barbados is to show case these up and coming stars on the 'Big Stage on the Beach' at Harbour Lights nightclub on the south coast of Barbados. This year the event took place on Thursday March 6th, 2008.

The big stage was on the beach under a blanket of twinkling stars and first up on stage were Barbadian rock band Nexcyx, who were recently nominated as Band of the Year at the Barbados Music Awards 2008. 

They performed covers of hits from the Cranberries, and celebrated their own Barbadian music diva Rihanna, with covers of 'Shut up and Drive' and 'Umbrella'. The two female vocalists wooed the audience with their strong and powerful voices as they then performed some of their own original material.

Next up on stage was Serena Ryder, who has recently been nominated for a Juno award. Her deep husky voice and original country sound had everyone dancing in the sand, as she played guitar and literally belted out every number. 

Her performance showed the range of her voice as she went from country ballads to soulful blues. Her presence on stage had such a positive energy and even though she is just twenty-three, she was so comfortable you could see why this talented young lady has been performing since she was just two years old. If ever you get the opportunity to see Serena perform live - don't miss it!

The final performance of the evening came from Canadian rock band Hedley. The band is made up of four members with the lead singer being Jacob Hoggard, who shot to fame after coming third in Canadian Idol in 2004. On bass guitar is Tommy Mac, guitar is Dave Rossin and the drummer is Chris Crippin. Hedley also produced an electric atmosphere in the audience as they performed their hit song 'She's so sorry'.

Their genre of music switches between rock, punk and easy listening folk ballads showing why this band were able to release six hit songs from their debut album 'Villain'. From this album their first number one in Canada came from the single 'On my Own'. They also hit number one again with 'She's so sorry', released from their second album 'Famous last words'.

It was a fantastic evening that left local Barbadians and tourists eagerly anticipating the return of 104.5 CHUM FM in March 2009 and wondering what artists they will bring with them next year.
