Barenaked Ladies in Barbados with CHUM FM

CHUM-FM was stripped down to the bare necessities then to pure desire as Barenaked Ladies graced the studio for Breakfast in Barbados 2010 with Roger, Darren and Marilyn at The Village of the Crane Resort and Residences in Barbados.

As always, the prize winners were entertained while waiting longingly for the band to arrive. Roger, Darren and Marilyn acted out a short scene from a film which was correctly guessed as "Up!" by a caller in Canada who won himself tickets to see Carrie Underwood. Darren did a convincing performance in his role as the dog and it looks like we will be talking to his agent soon!

The "Beat the Bank" contestant, Brenda in Toronto, won $1,300 as she was encouraged by the prize winners in Barbados to keep opening new vaults to achieve that sum. There was never a dull moment on air, just the anticipation of the arrival of the Barenaked Ladies.

Lainey Lui from e-Talk Daily and Lainey Gossip was also on the show and gave the entertainment news and gossip update on topics ranging from Adam Lambert as the replacement judge on American Idol, to Barenaked Ladies and Justin Bieber at the Juno Awards.

Four charming prize winners - Jillian Zaghlaul, Nicole Davidson, Niki Zarin and Natalie Laurov - shared their adventures on the island of Barbados so far.

They enjoyed their Island Safari tour with Ruel the Driver and a Tiami catamaran cruise where they swam with turtles.

The ladies indicated that they will be heading to Oistins and St. Lawrence Gap on Friday night before leaving on Saturday - and of course they were all looking forward to the concert and seeing Jaicko, Barenaked Ladies and New Kids on the Block. It was a first time visit for all but they promised to be back soon.

The crowd erupted as the band inconspicuously arrived and started their tune up. As the prize winners eagerly await the concert during the evening of April 22nd, 2010, the teaser performance given by Barenaked Ladies is indicative of what promises to be a spectacular show later.

Front man Ed Robertson noted that while it was a difficult transition to undertake performing as a "foursome", the band has done about 70 shows together now and the chemistry amongst the "fabulous foursome" of Ed Robertson, Jim Creeggan, Kevin Hearn and Tyler Stewart is undeniable.

The band is currently touring across Canada to promote their latest album "All in Good Time" and performed "Run Away" live on air. It was easy to remember why Barenaked Ladies is one of the most popular bands from Canada - their sense of humour and ability to ad lib are unique traits in the entertainment industry today.

They treated listeners to an impromptu performance of an exclusive song which is locally known as - "Marilyn's Hair" or "Feeling Fat, Fat, Fat".

This island-tinged calypso had the audience and the announcers laughing as they provided social commentary on topics ranging from Marilyn's hair to Kevin's weight gain since the tour started. The chorus was infectious and everyone sang along "Feeling fat, fat, fat" - sung to the tune of the popular island song "Feeling hot, hot, hot!"

Many prize winners observed how talented and "down to earth" the band members were. Ed Robertson noted that despite their busy schedule of presenting at the Juno Awards 2010 and touring across Canada, performing in Barbados fitted right into their schedule as it was in the flight plan from Ontario to Nova Scotia!

The band highlighted their visit to the venue for a rehearsal prior to the concert on the evening of April 22nd, 2010 and they have all fallen in love with Holders House, St. James - next to the famous Holders Polo Field.

After their performance on air, the members of the band mingled with prize winners and media taking photographs and signing autographs.

Speaking exclusively to Totally Barbados, Jim revealed he was on the quest for the best roti on the island and we directed him accordingly.

The atmosphere was very relaxed and this is one of the signatures of Barenaked Ladies; the ability to make everyone feel comfortable and believe that these guys are just like "the boys next door" who you can really get to know and be friends with.

With a line up at the concert featuring Barbadian Jaicko, New Kids on the Block and Barenaked Ladies, the audience will be in for a treat.

There will certainly be a few people hoping that the Barenaked Ladies recreate their impromptu calypso and give the fans some more of their natural performing style which has made them so popular across the world.
