Celtic Festival in Barbados

The Celtic festival in Barbados takes place every year in the last two weeks of May. This year, in 2011, it will be held from May 23rd to May 30th.

The Celtic festival in Barbados celebrates everything Celtic and the matrimony of the African and Celtic cultures on the island of Barbados.

Three hundred years ago slaves were brought to Barbados from Africa, Scotland and Ireland to work on the sugar plantations. There were also voluntary immigrants who moved to Barbados due to its rising prosperity.

The festival runs in a variety of venues including on a catamaran.

It showcases top Celtic musicians, celebrity chefs and dancers, and also promotes the rich and diverse talent of Africa with reggae music to boot.

Hundreds of Scottish and Irish tourists flock to experience the Celtic fun in the sun and learn about the rich entwined history of the Celts and Africans in Barbados, and how they went on to become the Barbadians of today.
