Holders Season 2010

Holders Season 2010 Thursday Saturday March 18th - Saturday March 27th, 2010
Holders is a traditional Plantation House from the 17th century, a beautiful 5 acre garden is the perfect setting for the open-air theatre that comes alive every year during the Holders Season. Downsized but not compromised, a boutique experience at one of the world's most attractive 'boutique' festivals - seven exquisite and varied events in The Little Theatre, with all of the variety associated with Wendy Kidd's renowned Season of performance in the beautiful grounds of the traditional plantation house from the 17th century, Holders House.
Thursday March 18th, 2010 An Evening with Bing Crosby
Following the huge success of An Evening with Frank Sinatra in 2009, Holders welcomes another of the greatest of all superstars, Bing Crosby. Bing, of course can't actually be with us, but top London West End artist Ian Casey can. Together with pianist and musical director Don Hunt - who worked with Crosby - play the music and tell the tales of an extraordinary phenomenon who sold over half a billion records. Friday March 19th, 2010
The Classical Piano with James Rhodes
A young master of the classical piano - who came to his instrument by the most unusual of routes with no formal academic musical education or dedicated mentoring. The title of the debut album "Razor Blades Little Pills and Big Pianos", hints at the suffering that dogged Rhode's childhood and early adult life. Classical music became his solace and key to survival. He plays Chopin, Bach and Beethoven and speaks of his passion for the music. www.jamesrhodespianist.com
Saturday March 20th, 2010 Shakespeare - As You Like Him
Actor Bruce Morrison conjures up the world of the bard - an evening in the company of some of William Shakespeare's greatest speeches, most raucous humour, and highest tragedy.
Monday March 22nd, 2010 A Letter from Australia - with novelist Kathy Lette
Linking in with the Lancaster Art Gallery's show of Australian Aboriginal work, the Holders Season welcomes one of Australia's wittiest and most successful authors, Kathy Lette. Having started life as a singer with the Salami Singers, Kathy now divides her time between full time writer, demented mother, and trying to find a shopping trolley that doesn't have a clubbed wheel. Kathy first achieved "succés de scandale" as a teenager with the novel Puberty Blues, now a major motion picture. Bring your funny bones… www.kathylette.com
Wednesday March 24th, 2010 Broadway Alive - with composer Charles Strouse
Holders has hosted several of the musical's greats in recent years. In 2010 we add to this list by welcoming the three times Tony winning composer, Charles Strouse. With film scores that include Bonnie and Clyde and The Night They Raided Minsky's, Strouse's greatest success is Annie, with its classic hit numbers It's a Hard Knock Life and Tomorrow. Charles Strouse plays the music and is interviewed by New York Post theatre critic, Michael Riedel. www.charlesstrouse.com
Friday March 26th, 2010 Jazz Double Bill - Ian Shaw and Liane Carroll
Two fine international jazz artists parade their skills singly and severally - the huge versatile Ian Shaw delivers his tributes to the likes of Joni Mitchell with bravura and panache, whilst fireball Liane Carroll 'swings like hell one minute and is brutally heart breaking and expressive the next'. A musical feat to savour. www.myspace.com/ianshawmusic www.myspace.com/lianecarroll
Saturday March 27th, 2010 Little Theatre Gala Night with Mica Parris / Kit and The Widow
A magnificent double bill to close the season, the traditional Gala taking on a new and special shape… Picnicking around the pool will refresh the palate between two fantastic performance sets variously by Holders favourites Kit and The Widow, and chart topping UK Soul and R 'n B star Mica Paris with her band. Kit and The Widow have caused more howls of delight and hilarity than any act in Holder's history, whilst Mica Paris is guaranteed to wind up proceedings with her mighty voice and personality to match. www.micaparis.com www.kitandthewidow.com Programme subject to change and alteration For more information contact: Holders Season, Holders House, St.James E-mail: theseason@holders.net or info@holders.net Tel: (246) 432-6385 Fax: (246) 432-6461
