The Oistins Fish Festival happens every Easter weekend, and is held in the historic fishing town of Oistins on the south coast of Barbados.
Oistins saw the battle between the Royalists and the Roundheads, which resulted in the Charter of Barbados / Treaty of Oistins being drawn up on January 11th, 1652. The parliament of Barbados, the second oldest outside Britain, was inaugurated in 1639.
The festival is a celebration of fishermen - their skills and their influence on Barbados life. Spectators can enjoy watching the fishermen race their boats, see who is the quickest to de-bone a fish and much, much more.
The streets are lined with vendors selling everything from children's toys to local arts & crafts, and of course there is a lot of cooked fish to buy as well.
