The annual Taste of Barbados Festival is a celebration of the unique culinary landscape of this island, which is one of the richest and most culturally diverse in the Caribbean.
It is the perfect way to enjoy and rediscover the abundance of flavours of the island of Barbados. Offering over fifty lip-smacking events, tastefully spread across ten mouth-watering days, the Taste of Barbados food festival presents an opportunity to truly immerse oneself in the culinary culture of this island.
From October 5th - 14th, 2007 celebrity chefs from around the world interact and 'intermix' with Barbados' finest chefs. The result: ten days of five-star food, festivals, events and parties with no end.
Tours, seminars, several promotions and of course fine dining experiences are all part and parcel of this most delightful gastronomic affair. From rum-tasting to 18th century feasts, the possibilities are endless and the memories just as indelible.
Sponsored by Food & Wine Magazine, the event showcases the talents of the world's most renowned wine and spirits producers, chefs and culinary personalities. Chefs at hotels and restaurants work closely with farmers ensuring that only Barbadian products and produce are used throughout.
This culinary affair attracts media attention both locally and internationally and like good wine, continues to improve with age.
This year's main events include:
Gourmet Taste, which is held at the world renowned Holder's House, St. James. Generally recognised as the flagship event of the festival, this fabulous evening offers a variety of cuisine from the menus of some of the island's most celebrated restaurants, complimented by the exquisite flavours of meticulously selected wines and spirits. Savour appetizers, entrées and desserts created by some of the best chefs on the island.
The Best Big Bajan Barbecue, which is held at the Hilton Barbados gives patrons the chance to participate in the judging of the best barbecue offerings prepared right before their eyes.
Teams of chefs will present mouth watering barbeque delights that will showcase the best that Barbados has to offer. Feast on the flavours from six buffet stations featuring delectable fish, chicken, pork, beef, lamb and vegetarian options.
These barbeque teams represent some of the best of Barbados: L'Acajou at Sandy Lane Hotel, Le Careenage at Hilton Barbados, Palm Terrace at Fairmont Royal Pavilion, Bagatelle Great House, The Boucan at Savannah Hotel and Wytukai at Accra Beach Resort.
Aphrodisiac, one of the many stimulating additions to the festival this year, will be featured at Casa De Pablo Villa, Sandy Lane, St. James.
It will be an evening devoted to an exploration and examination of the truths, myths and legends of some of the most potent Caribbean love potions and world famous sensual foods, which will be prepared by several of our most celebrated chefs.
Spend the evening in a sensual setting, sampling foods, drinks and an environment pleasurable to the senses. Listen and be excited by the "cock-tales" session; an enchanting encounter with traditional storytelling town criers' regaling you with tales - and warnings - on the effectiveness of several Caribbean love potions.
Fact or fiction? You be the judge! Before leaving, you can opt to titillate your senses with a mauby or chamomile based "cocktail." Must be 18 years or over.
