Mention the name of Barry Forde anywhere in the cycling world and immediately the name of Barbados comes up. This young champion has made Barbados proud through his exploits on cycling tracks around the world. From Germany, Australia, Latin America to Europe, wherever there's cycling the name of Barry Forde is known and feared by his opponents. Barry Forde is rated number two in The Keirin having won the silver medal at the World Championships in 2005. He is also the reigning Match Sprint and Keirin champion at the 2005 Central American and Caribbean games.
It's not by chance that Barry Forde is at the top of his game. His father, Colin Forde, who is now his manager, was himself a national champion representing Barbados around the world. Barry's rise to fame is testimony to the top class cycling that has been developed in Barbados over the years. The 500-metres velodrome at the National Stadium has contributed to the world-class standard Barbados has been able to maintain when competing at the highest level. The Barbados Cycling Union (BCU) organizes cycling in Barbados and holds regular meetings at the National stadium.

Riders from Canada, Australia, Germany, France, Britain, the United States of America, Venezuela, Italy and the Caribbean have enjoyed Barbadian hospitality while competing at the National stadium. In addition to the national and international meetings, the BCU also stages several road races throughout the year. These attract lots of excitement as the riders speed along the streets of Barbados.
