A highly competitive sport, Barbados was the gracious host for highly acclaimed international golf competitions, attracting professional sportsmen from around the world to its shores.
Barbados was the proud host of the 2006 World Golf Championships at the Sandy Lane Resort on the prestigious, Tom Fazio designed Country Club course from December 5th to 10th.
Known as the The Barbados World Cup, this is the first time that this event has been held in Barbados and only the third time that it has been held in the Caribbean. It has been held twice in Puerto Rico.

The Country Club was the perfect venue, upholding the World Cup tradition of visiting exquisite locations and courses. In 2005, Sandy Lane was named the Caribbean's leading resort. In the same year, Barbados was also named the Caribbean's leading destination.
Not only is it a privilege and an honour for Barbados to have hosting such a world class event, but it is a unique opportunity to spotlight and showcase golf in Barbados. The event boasted participants from 24 nations and will be broadcast internationally in over 140 countries.
