Barbados Horse Racing News - Kate OConnor takes centre stage at Garrison

Racing needs its equine stars to draw the crowds and Kate O'Connor, who, in her brief career to date, has already captured the hearts of racing fans, will be out to show that her star is still in the ascendancy at the Garrison Savannah on Saturday 24 March, 2007.

Last year's champion 2-year-old will face some formidable opponents in the Michael Parravicino Memorial Trophy (5.10pm) but all the evidence points to another success for the Arthur Brothers-owned filly. Kate O'Connor has won four of her nine starts and appears to be still improving.

The 3-year-old, who will be ridden by Jamar Maughn, has already won twice over the race distance of 1570m and should be fresh and well after a two-month break. Apostle, the mount of Anderson Trotman, Charlie Blue (Juan Crawford), and Hawayan Topic (Anderson Ward) will not let her have things her own way, however, and the race should be a thriller.

There is a strong supporting card on Realtors Ltd Hopeful Breeders Raceday, which gets under way at 1.45pm. Trinity and Caesar could provide Anderson Trotman with an early double in the first two races while Ma Cherie has a good chance of losing her maiden tag in the 2.50.
