The National Stadium of Barbados

Barbados National Stadium is the home of track and field, cycling and football. Officially opened in 1970, it has excellent facilities for all of these sports.

For the athletes there's a 400 meters ultra modern rubberized eight-lane track while the cyclists can exhibit their skills on a 500 meters banked velodrome. The five spectator stands are covered and provide seating for 5,000 persons.

The main stand named after Louis Lynch, one of the pioneers of organized track and field in Barbados, seats 600, and has facilities for the print and broadcast media.

The National stadium is but one of three sports facilities located on a 22-acre site at Waterford, St. Michael some five miles outside of the capital Bridgetown. The others are the Netball Stadium along with the Rifle and Pistol Range.

The Netball stadium has been purpose-built for that sport and has over the years hosted teams from the Caribbean and around the world. The Netball stadium has been purpose-built for that sport and has over the years hosted teams from the Caribbean and around the world.

The shooting range is under the control of the Barbados Rifle and Pistol Association. On the weekend the loud blast of friendly gunfire can be heard in the surrounding districts.
