The Barbados Lobster Alive Beach Restaurant is situated just next door to the popular "Boatyard" and 500 meters south of The Careenage in Bridgetown on the pristine Carlisle Bay; one of the best beaches in Barbados.

This is the location of the International Yacht Anchorage & hosts calm waters with no reefs, and a clean white sandy beach. Small boats often come ashore in front of the restaurant. Patrons from the West Coast often charter small speed boats or yachts to bring them down to us.

The menu is mostly:

» Seafood from Barbados and the Grenadine islands
» Lobster
» Local Fish in season
» Shrimp
» Conch and
» Crabbacks

» Special meals to suit kids and veggies and Steaks for non seafood eaters.

» Wheel chair access and adjacent parking.

» Rental lounges / umbrellas, showers, toilets etc...

Take Away Service!

Pick them up Alive:

» Freshly Cooked (cooked, split, cleaned)
» Freshly frozen Tails
» Complete restaurant dinners
» Famous Lobster Bisque and shellfish starters

Ideal for private parties; mostly at short notice, or delivery at a modest charge or by taxi if needed.

Our lobsters are actually Crayfish but are known locally as Caribbean Spiny Lobster. They can be caught in Barbados but not in abundance due to the relatively steep drop offs of the continental shelf and the numerous residential buyers available to the fishermen.

Lobsters are caught mostly by divers, living in the small Islands of the Grenadines, located approximately 120 miles due west of Barbados.

Dress is quite casual to grand. Anyone wearing a tux gets thrown in the tank. In the day time near dry swimsuits are fine and barefoot is optional. Women please wear tops!

This is one of the only restaurants naturally suited to kids as they become fascinated with the big tank of Lobster. Next they are playing on the beach or in the tank itself and meeting other kids. Running around all close by and in sight of their parents.

This is definitely a good place to "Have a Good Day at the Beach".

Night Time is lively with friendly waitresses. The beach Deck is very popular and invites walking between servings or dancing on the beach to the popular ballads of our two professional jazz groups, currently alternating Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday lunch with reduced performances in summer months.

Phone for current schedule. Old nostalgic jazz standards are the dedicated house music.

History of Lobster Alive

The owner of Lobster Alive Art Taylor, has a small single engine Cherokee aeroplane which he flies to our holding tank in Bequia Island; and delivers them dry; just in time to our big distribution tank at the Restaurant. In season the tank often has 2000 to 3000 pounds of Live Lobster in it - quite a sight to see!

The restaurant initially began as a wholesale distributor for the island's hotels and restaurants. Cooked takeaway service was added; along with a friendly free beer while you wait.

Shortly after that the health inspector demanded we go the whole way or "wholesale only". This was around 1998.

Long time friend and fellow musician with the local VSOP Jazzband "Stu Jenkins" became the resident artist (designer) and we named the up coming restaurant "LOBSTER ALIVE and all that Jazz".

We felt our way; with many of the usual restaurant mistakes. But it seems now, we have scored quite well with international critics, restaurant guide books; and our many repeat customers.
