Over the past few months, the most popular branch of the department store, Broad Street, has undergone a face-lift of sorts and in a bold move to revamp its image, boost customer satisfaction and make shopping easier and more enjoyable, Cave Shepherd undertook a massive investment in 2007 which saw departments being revamped, updated and in some cases, even relocated within the store.
The beach wear department was rebranded "The Beach" and moved to the front of the store, while the women's designer clothing section was shifted to the ground floor from the first floor while a new look perfumes department featuring the very popular MAC Cosmetics Section with long, elegant counters and sleek chairs for makeovers greet you on arrival.
On the second floor, you will find a café that offers the most delicious and soothing breakfast, lunch or afternoon treats and a relocated and upgraded men's clothing section.
In a nutshell, Cave Shepherd, Broad Street, with its new look and brands makes every shopping trip a one-stop, no-hassle experience and living up to its reputation as the leading department store on the island.
As Barbados' oldest surviving department store established by two respected Bridgetown businessmen, Mr. R. G. Cave and Mr. J. P. Shepherd on December 17, 1906, the company has proven that it has the experience, expertise and know-how as it has grown from a general supply store in Palmetto Street and a dry goods store at No. 10 Broad Street into a fledging international enterprise.
The company has evolved from a traditional retail department store to a publicly listed company, which encompasses its retail heritage with financial services, international business, wealth management and property and tourism investments under the umbrella - Duty Free Caribbean Holdings Limited (DFCH).
DFCH was launched in late 2000 as a joint venture between Cave Shepherd and one of the world's leading duty-free operations, Weitnauer Holding Limited of Switzerland. This relationship continues to position Cave Shepherd as a broadly based Caribbean services group, engaged in businesses which are internationally competitive, offer excellent service and provide opportunities for growth.
Today, the Cave Shepherd brand is a diverse and multi-faceted organisation and a well-respected corporate citizen not only in Barbados and the Caribbean, but everywhere in the world where it conducts business.
The company operates 64 stores in 11 territories across the region, including Grenada, St. Lucia, St. Marten, Aruba, Tortola, Cayman Islands and Jamaica.
