Cricket Legends of Barbados
|
Would you like to see the ball used in the first hat-trick by a West Indies player in first-class cricket or the jacket worn by England player Trevor Bailey on the West Indies tour of 1953/54? Visit the Cricket Museum at Herbert House, Fontabelle, St Michael, and you will see these and many, many other exhibits on display.
The Cricket Legends of Barbados Museum is filled with nostalgic photos and priceless memorabilia of some of the greatest players in the history of cricket. There is a bat autographed by the First West Indies Test team in 1928 along with the teams they played. There are news articles dating from the 1900's and photographs from the late 1800's.
As you walk through, you will immediately get a sense of the sheer brilliance of some of Barbados' greatest masters of the game.
This is all part of what's in store for you at the Cricket Legends of Barbados, a company that is striving to leave a rich legacy for generations to come.
So what are we all about? There are 41 Cricket Legends all of whom played for Barbados and the West Indies including Sir Garry Sobers, Sir Everton Weekes, Rev Wes Hall, Charlie Griffith, Seymour Nurse, Desmond Haynes, Joel Garner and Gordon Greenidge.
Our mandate is to inspire a new generation of cricketers by having them interact with living cricket legends, to learn from them and to carry on the legacy.
The Cricket Legends of Barbados Museum operates two stores: one at Fontabelle and the other in the departure lounge at Grantley Adams International Airport. The stores offer a range of West Indies apparel as well as Cricket Legends branded wear for men, women, children and babies. There are T-shirts, polos, autographed miniature bats, autographed cricket balls, books, games, prints and more.
You wouldn't want to leave Barbados without taking home a token to remember the time you spent at the Cricket Legends.
The Cricket Legends work closely with the Barbados Tourism Authority in promoting Barbados as a premier sports destination. And, together with the BTA and other partners, it will host the 3rd annual CLOBI Cup World Masters Tournament from November 11th to 20th, 2011, at the world-renowned Kensington Oval.
This Twenty/20 tournament for over 35's, was first held in 2009 and brought together England, South Africa, Sri Lanka and the West Indies in an exciting and very competitive series. England walked away with the CLOBI Cup.
In 2010, India replaced South Africa in the lineup but it was Sri Lanka who raised the Cup at the end of the tournament. Now it's anyone's guess who will hold the coveted Cup aloft in 2011. You will want to be there to see it for yourself.
On the last Friday of each month, starting March 25th, 2011, you can spend an Evening with the Legends in the Legends Pavilion at Herbert House. Here you will get to interact with many of the legends and hear them speak about their exploits on and off the field.
The Cricket Legends of Barbados, a "must see" when you come to Barbados! There is no other attraction like it in the Caribbean.
