Barbados Souvenirs


When visiting Barbados, you will want to take some souvenirs of your trip home; therefore we have outlined some great gift ideas for friends and family and explained where these Barbados souvenirs can be purchased.

One of the most obvious presents that you may want to take home is food and drink to share with loved ones, so that they get a taste of the Caribbean too!

Barbados Rum

There are two main brands of rum manufactured in Barbados and they are Mount Gay Rum and Cockspur Rum, both of which have a regular blended brand. This would be Mount Gay Eclipse or Cockspur 5 Star Rum. If you would prefer to buy a more refined brand then you can choose between Mount Gay Extra Old or Cockspur Old Gold.

Hot Pepper Sauce

While eating out in Barbados, you will notice that Bajan's eat Hot Pepper Sauce with everything, and you may well get in to the habit yourself. Bajan Rum Cake

Another great present to take home is Bajan Rum Cake; these are available in all supermarkets and souvenir shops that are located in the shopping areas below.

If you are staying on the west coast of the island then you will find souvenirs for sale at West Coast Mall and Chattel House Village, here you will find souvenirs such as rum, tee shirts, mugs, and glasses.

If you arrive by cruise ship then you will find many souvenir shops at the Bridgetown Cruise Terminal. Please read the article below on the Cruise Terminal for full listings of the shops located there and the goods that they sell.

Hand Craft Shops and Leather Goods

Just outside of the cruise terminal you will find the Pelican Craft Centre, here you will find a wealth of hand craft shops with many unique and delightful souvenirs to take home. There are some really good leather goods for sale here at very reasonable prices.

In Bridgetown, you find the main shopping area to be on Broad Street where you will find a lot of duty free shopping and a number of souvenir shops. Here you will also find street vendors at the bottom of Broad Street on the bridge selling great souvenir items such as leather goods and hand made jewellery.

If you are staying on the south coast then there a number of shopping centres to choose from for your souvenirs. On the south coast main road you will find Coconut Walk with a few shops selling clothing and surf wear.

Further along the south coast main road you will find Quayside Centre, where there are a number of souvenir shops. If you are buying presents for children then you may want to look at the children's surf shop Lazy Days, here you will also find the adult shop too, which has a number of great gift options.

When you get to St. Lawrence Gap, on the south coast you will find there are a number of street vendors selling leather goods and hand made jewellery, there is also another Chattel House Village with a number of souvenirs hops selling tee shirts, tea towels and mugs.

Another great place for souvenirs is Oistins Fish Market on a weekend, where there is a fish fry and a big outdoor party. Head to the back towards the sea, here you will find a number of vendors selling a wide array of souvenirs. Here you will find more unusual souvenirs such as Puffer Fish light shades. A Puffer Fish is similar to a hedgehog; these are caught and cleaned and then blown back up and dried out to create wonderful light shades.

Another great place to find souvenirs with a very Caribbean flavour is to head up to Earthworks Pottery in St. Thomas. Here you can see the potter at his wheel creating vibrant plates and ornaments.

Finally if you don't get around to your souvenir shopping until you get to the airport then you will find a number of souvenir options including duty free hoping at the Airport Terminal Building.
