ZR vans are white mini vans with a maroon stripe down the side, and the letters ZR on the license plate. These are privately owned and run specific routes numbered one through eleven. What an experience these are!
You can ask at your front desk which route you are on, or you can always ask the driver or conductor if where you are heading is along their route. These are also privately owned and the fare is $2.00 one way.
There seem to be thousands of ZRs on the road which often makes them the most reliable form of public transport. ZR's run more frequently than buses do and run until much later at night so it is never difficult to hop on one and head out when getting around in Barbados.
However, much like the mini buses, drivers and conductors pile people in the vans in an attempt to make more money. Often passengers are asked to "double up" which mean sitting on laps in order to fit as many people as possible.
If you are prone to claustrophobia, we would not suggest you to take a ZR, they are truly our version of a roller coaster. The drivers also like to blast music whilst driving, but, if you are feeling fearless, it's a great cultural experience!
