Barbados Gun Hill Signal Station
The Barbados Gun Hill Signal Station was built in 1818. Two years after Barbados' only slave revolt and it was the finest of a chain of stations used to signal the approach of enemy ships and the safe arrival of cargo ships and to help in the internal security of the island.

Barbados Sugar Machinery Museum
The Barbados National Trust operated Sugar Machinery Museum is located in the old Blowers Factory Boiling House. This in turn is situated within the compound of the Portvale Sugar Factory. The name Portvale is a combination of Vaucluse in St. Thomas and Porters in St. James, both of which operated as sugar factories. After their closure, canes destined for these two factories were taken to Portvale which was purpose built in 1984.
