When you are planning a wedding in Barbados you can be sure that one element of your wedding is guaranteed to be wonderful and that is the food that you will eat at your wedding reception.
Bajans love to cook and there are some fantastic caterers that you can hire for your Barbados island wedding reception.
Maybe you are having a big wedding with lots of guests and therefore you would like a sit down meal, if so then you can hire a caterer to provide you and your guests with a mouth watering meal to celebrate your happy event.
The food served in Barbados may differ from the food you are used to in your home country, so we have looked at some typical menus of wedding caterers, so that you know what to expect and the various types of food that you can enjoy.
For a sit down meal you can expect three courses with a choice of a fish cocktail, a chicken salad or something light like garlic mushrooms or soup to start.
For the main course you will see roast beef, fish, or chicken. Then for dessert you will have a choice of apple pie, cheese cake, chocolate mousse, pavlovas or ice cream. All of these can have a Caribbean theme such as Malibu cheesecake and rum and raisin ice cream.
If you just want a cold buffet then you could expect to see cold meats and fish such as beef, turkey, chicken, flying fish, dolphin, smoked salmon, ham, pork and pate’s served with potato salad, green salads, cheese board and breads.
Or you may prefer to have trays of food being offered to your guests as Hors d’oeuvres. These would include filo pastry shells with various fillings, sandwiches, a Caribbean favorite of patties (a pastry filled with spicy meat), caviar, cheese straws, chicken or cheese puffs, which are like profiteroles with a savoury filling, chicken wings, fish cakes, pizza’s, quiche and rotis.
Rotis are another Barbadian favorite which is a flat dough filled with chicken or beef curry and then wrapped in the dough, very filling and very tasty. You could also be offered spring rolls, sushi, and kebabs.
Caterers on the island are accustomed to catering for Barbados island weddings for overseas couples and are more than willing to make dishes to suit your tastes. Just explain to them the types of food that you would like to eat and the sort of budget that you are working to.
If you are using a wedding coordinator then they can recommend some good caterers or if you are organizing the wedding yourself then ask one of the larger hotels who they would recommend.
