Dialing Instructions
Local Calls: Local telephone numbers comprise of seven digits only and there is no charge incurred when dialing from one land line to another.
International Calls: International calls are billed according to the rates charged by the local telephone company, Cable and Wireless (Barbados) Limited. Please note, hotels generally add on a service charge to overseas calls and it is often more economical to purchase prepaid phone cards or use your credit card when making long distance calls. Prepaid phone cards also allow callers to place international calls from lines that are barred. Please check with your respective hotel or villa prior to making international calls to confirm their respective policy.
• To call an international number direct, dial: 1 + Area Code + Number
• For Operator Assisted dialing, dial: 0 + Area Code + Number
• To dial the United Kingdom, dial: 011 + 44 + Area Code + Number
You will not be charged for international calls if you:
• Hang up before you dial the complete number
• If there is no reply.
• If the number you are calling is busy
Responsibility
Whether staying in a hotel room or a villa, please remember to use caution when offering the use of your telephone as you will be held personally responsible for any calls made from your number while you are in residence. This responsibility also extends to collect and third-party telephone calls.
Safety
• Please remember to follow international safety rules when using your telephone.
• Do not use the phone while you are in the shower, bathtub or swimming pool. Should your phone be immersed in water it can cause an electrical shock!
• Try to avoid using the phone during stormy weather. Should you need to do so, keep your conversation brief. While the local telephone company, Cable and Wireless (Barbados) Limited takes precautionary measures to limit electrical surges, total protection is impossible.
• In the event of a suspected gas leak, do not use your telephone until it has been checked or repaired. Many people do not realize that telephones contain electrical contacts that generate sparks when the handset is lifted or a number dialed. While this is a rare situation, it is important to note that this can cause an explosion if the gas leak is concentrated.
Do Not Disturb
All telephones have a volume control switch. Should you not wish to be disturbed, feel free to advise the Hotel Reception Desk of villa personnel to hold your calls or alternatively, turn the volume right down. It is not wise to take your phone off the hook.
