Traveler Review 2006 – Anne Broughton from Leeds in the UK

Barbados Traveler Anne Broughton

We spoke to Anne Broughton who is currently on holiday here in Barbados from Leeds, UK. She is here with her friend Janet from Nottingham, UK.

It is Anne’s second trip to Barbados, and the first time for Janet. Anne has previously been to Jamaica and is impressed with Barbados, saying how different it is from Jamaica, which she found too political.

The girls both agree that Barbados is just as they imagined. Anne actually had a dream about the island and went on and on about how she had to come here until her ticket was booked!

They are staying at the Southern Palms Hotel, in St. Lawrence Gap, on the south coast of the island in the parish of Christ Church on a room only basis. They are very happy with their room, which they say is quite comfortable.

They have been frequenting Dover Beach and Sandy Beach and are looking forward to a day out on the Crane Beach – which is rated in the top 10 beaches of the world by Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous.

Anne and Janet say the beaches are just as a Caribbean beach should be – clean and nice!

They have made friends easily on the island, saying how friendly, helpful and genuinely lovely the locals have been to them, so much so they have received tours of the island!

For general getting around they have used buses or their feet – they say it is so pleasant to stroll along the beach, they are quite enjoying the exercise!

Their favourite bar has been the Ship Inn and for eating out they have been more than happy with the hotel restaurant.

Overall they think food and drink prices are the same as the UK, but Anne has noted that in 2 years since she was last in Barbados, prices have risen. This is due to the increase in fuel prices as seen in the rest of the world, however being an island and importing much of our produce these extra costs are passed on to the consumer.

When asked, “where is their favourite part of Barbados”, these ladies were very sure, there is nowhere better to be than on the south coast in parish of Christ Church. They love the nightlife in St. Lawrence Gap.

When it comes to nightclubs they have been to The Boatyard, The Ship Inn and Club Extreme – all of which they rate very highly!

The highlight of their holiday has been the local people that they have met and their surroundings.

When asked for their best experience – they were united in their answer – just being in Barbados!

Needless to say – Anne and Janet will be back next year!
