Superstar Rihanna is at home in Barbados for the annual Crop Over Festival

Rihanna is at home in Barbados for the annual Crop Over Festival 2012. Wherever she goes, the award-winning singer has been creating a buzz.

The young songstress attended many of the fetes and parties held across the island during the festival season. Among the events attended by the Barbadian-bred pop icon was the hugely popular Brewster’s Road Fete at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown.

Patrons were in for a special treat as Rihanna was introduced by local entertainer Lil Rick during his performance on stage. Although she did not sing a note, just having the homegirl who has made it big on the international arena in the house was enough to send her fans wild.

Rihanna waved to the crowd acknowledging the warm reception and then spent the night partying in the VIP section. It was an all-niter for the 23-year-old celebrity, who was spotted driving away in a hired car just after 8 in the morning.

Crop Over is billed this year as the ‘Sweetest Summer Festival” and returning home for the season of events is nothing new for Rihanna. She was back last year for the festival’s climax Kadooment, a colorful spectacle where thousands of costumed revelers dance in the streets.

The route they take is several kilometers and winds its way from the country’s national stadium at Waterford, St. Michael to Spring Garden Highway, just on the outskirts of Bridgetown. The revelers they find plenty to eat and drink from a line of vendors offering everything from burgers to barbeque pigtails and sodas to the island’s famous Barbados rum.

Last year Rihanna jumped with the band Baje International, and the organizers have admitted that her presence gave the group unprecedented international media coverage. So much so, that this year the massive demand for their costumes were fully booked much earlier than usual. There is no word as yet though if Rihanna will be among them again this time around.

As much as Rihanna is known for partying, that may not be the only reason why she is in Barbados at this time. Rihanna is featured by talk show queen Oprah Winfrey on her show Next Chapter, scheduled for August 19. The interview will take place in Barbados and Rihanna has already been seen driving Oprah around the island.

During the interview, Rihanna is expected to open up about her humble beginnings and the series of events that took her from being an average island girl to one of the biggest celebrities in the world.
