River Bay

River bay is exactly what its name implies, a bay with a river feeding into the sea, located on the northern coast of Barbados. River bay is a secluded spot away from all the hustle and bustle of the town areas.

Coming from the Bridgetown area, it could take over a half hour to reach River Bay but it’s definitely worth the trip. The bay itself is very small and quaint as is the river; but in fact, it’s really more of a stream than a river.

The government of Barbados has developed the area with a road, making it easily accessible, with bathroom facilities, which include a fresh water shower, a pay phone and seating area.

River Bay is a popular spot for local picnickers on the weekends and public holidays.

During the week however, it tends to be mostly deserted, quiet and peaceful.

The swimming on the north coast can be a bit hazardous at times so be sure to take the necessary precautions.
