The 24th Annual CHUM FM concert staged on April 23rd, 2009 at the Harbour Lights entertainment spot will see the spotlight focused on American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson, Katy Perry, and Simple Plan.

The concert will receive coverage on City TV’s (national network) will send E Talk, Much Music and MTV.

This year the CHUM FM breakfast show, hosted by Toronto’s top radio personality team, Roger, Darren & Marilyn, will be aired live at the Almond Beach Village from April 20th to 24th. CHUM FM is the most listened to music radio station in Canada. The station reaches 1.05 million listeners (21.8%) during the week.

In addition to the CHUM-FM promotion and live broadcasts, its sister radio stations in Halifax, Ottawa, Winnipeg, Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver and Victoria will run their own Breakfast in Barbados promotions in their respective markets, with all but Vancouver and Victoria doing live broadcasts from The Hilton, Southern Palms, Amaryllis, Mango Bay and Beach View, from April 20th to 24th, 2009. All prizewinners will travel with their respective stations and also participate in the concert.

Barbados received an 11% increase in visitor arrivals from Canada during the first quarter of 2009 and the entire Breakfast in Barbados promotions and broadcasts are valued at Cdn $4,000,000.

In 2008, Barbados welcomed close to 58,000 Canadian visitors, which represented an increase of 7.5 per cent during the previous year.

The Courthouse, a popular Toronto based entertainment spot, recently swung open its doors to stage the first ever CHUM FM Kick Off Bash, spearheaded by the Barbados Tourism Authority (BTA) to signal the launch of its Breakfast in Barbados promotion, now celebrating its 24th year.

The bash, which was staged not only to jump start the CHUM FM promotion, but to bring a part of Barbados to Toronto which included mesmerizing performances by Arturo Tappin and Marisa Lindsay. The crowd, who was spellbound by Arturo and Marisa, expressed excitement at having an opportunity to win one of the two trips to enjoy breakfast in Barbados.

Consul General Leroy McClean welcomed the sold out crowd and urged them “not to be jealous of the prizewinners for the promotion, but to make their own way to the beautiful shores of Barbados.”

Past winners of the Breakfast in Barbados promotion also attended the function. In 2007, 16 previous winners traveled at their expense to Barbados to be part of the promotion.

The group, who has maintained the friendships that grew during the promotion, remain fervent followers of the Breakfast in Barbados promotion. To their delight, one actually won the trip to Barbados for this year.

The bash was the first such event in 24 years and proved to be a fabulous launching pad which provided an additional $200,000 value in media exposure for Barbados during the past two weeks. The full blown promotion will provide over Cd $2 million worth in media exposure, including over 300 outdoor posters in Toronto, a fully wrapped train carriage, and web site advertising.
