Barbados Crop Over 2009

The Crop Over Festival traditionally celebrates the last sugar cane harvest and delivery of the last canes for the season. Over the years the festival has evolved into a series of activities involving both entertainment and heritage events.

Event: Junior Calypso Monarch Performance
More than a competition, 30 contestants perform in two age categories 8 – 12 years and 13-18 years, each of the contestants participate in etiquette and Calypso skill workshops, helping them to realize their potential both as citizens and upcoming performers.

Event: Party Monarch & Sweet Ragga Soca competitions
One of the most keenly contested competitions in the Crop Over Festival, the energetic party songs of the season fill the air. The Sweet Ragga Soca competition is new this year where eight finalists will battle for the top spot. There will be a massive after party featuring the International Soca Monarch, Groovy Soca Monarch, Peoples’ Choice Monarch and Road March Queen Faye Lyons, Bunji Garlin and the Asylum band.
