Once again we look forward to a Holders Season that is rich in variety and almost overwhelmed by great local and international talents held on the beautiful grounds of Holders House.


Saturday March 17th, 2012 – Opening Night
African Music Night

Holders Season opens with one of Africa’s super groups, the legendary KANDA BONGO MAN and his 6-piece band. Hailing from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kanda Bongo Man is one of the best known stars of world music, one of the pioneers of African Soukous music and the man who single-handedly gave the world the infectious Kwasa Kwasa dance. As the saying goes, “if Kanda Bongo Man doesn’t make you want to dance, call an ambulance. You’re dead!” Not to be missed.

The Cole Porter Story with Joe Stilgoe & Hannah Waddingham

Let’s Do it, Anything Goes, Night and Day, I Get a Kick out Of You, Begin the Beguine… the list of Cole Porter classics is almost endless. The multi talented singer and pianist Joe Stilgoe and one of the London West End’s brightest stars, Hannah Waddingham creates a special evening of sublime songs and nostalgia.

Comedy Night – The Gag Reflex

Kit Hesketh-Harvey (best known for thirty years as the singer-songwriter of Kit and the Widow, ‘Just A Minute’ veteran and co-star on the first-ever BBC Comedy Prom at the Albert Hall) has teamed up with the composer and accordionist James McConnel, in a new programme of his original cabaret and theatre songs, both hilarious and moving, they will explore contemporary events, local scandals and the extraordinary vagaries of the human heart.

Holders Music Hall Night

Join us for a veritable cornucopia of musical and theatrical talents headlined by one of the great jazz voices of our time, the hugely entertaining Claire Martin and her Trio. Also on the night, the maverick-but-massively-charismatic talents of Russian/Israeli guitarist Estas Tonne. Two great pianists James McConnel and Joe Stilgoe will do musical battle on stage, and more surprises and delights to be announced.

The King Of Swing with Julian Bliss

The young clarinet virtuoso Julian Bliss leads his ensemble through some of the great tunes of the swing era in his tribute to the King of Swing, Benny Goodman. Bliss recreates the exciting sound of swing from the 30’s and 40’s, staying true to the authentic feel but naturally with a modern twist.

French Soiree – The Songs of Piaf with Eve Loiseau

Holders takes on the style and chic of 20th century Paris for an evening… Eve Loiseau’s interpretations of Piaf’s songs together with the fascinating tale she tells reminds us of just how great a singer and personality ‘the little sparrow’ was… La vie en rose, Sous le ciel de Paris, Milord, Autumn Leaves, Padam Padam, C’est merveilleux, L’accordéoniste, Non je ne regrette rien and many more, accompanied by Fiona Barrow (violin) and Edward Jay(accordion)

Classical Night – Opera Recital with Joan Rodgers CBE

The Holders Season is thrilled to welcome one Britain’s most admired and successful international sopranos, Joan Rodgers CBE. Joan has worked with many of the world’s leading conductors, orchestras and opera houses with her appearance at the Last Night of the Proms having introduced her to a worldwide television audience of millions.

Young, gifted British clarinetist Julian Bliss, has appeared as a soloist with many world renown orchestras, he has performed at the Lincoln Centre and for the Queen’s 80th Birthday. For his second Season appearance Julian will present a programme of classical works accompanied by pianist Robert Bottriell.

Gala Night
